I've got a hankering for more Shasta action

Last year's attempt on Shasta was a bit of a disaster.  It was frost nip all around with one case of severe frostbite on one person's finger.  The snowtubes didn't work out very well either.  You had two possible speeds.  Unbelievably slow or really bloody fast.  The plan was to use ice axes to slow the descent but the sharp tip would catch in the snow or just pop the intertube.  Given the problems of last year I'm thinking about doing a solo trip this year.  I might bring a snowboard for the descent.  Its been a long time since I headed into the wilderness alone and I miss the feeling.  Spending a few days scared shitless on a mountain is a great way to get a certain buzz that is missing in modern life.
